An IndiGo flight from Guwahati suffered a tail strike while landing at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday, aviation sources said, according to India Today.

Flight 6E 6542 carried out a go-around on its first approach. During the second approach, the aircraft's tail struck the runway. The aircraft completed the landing safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked without harm, the sources said.

IndiGo said the aircraft has been grounded and is undergoing maintenance checks. It will return to service only after receiving the necessary clearances.

"In line with standard operating procedures, all relevant authorities were informed, and the aircraft is undergoing maintenance checks," the airline said. It added that the safety of its passengers and crew remained its top priority.

The incident took place in gusty weather conditions, according to IndiGo.

Sources said the airline arranged an alternate aircraft for the onward Bengaluru-Coimbatore leg so that operations were not disrupted. The incident did not affect airport operations, they added.

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the incident, sources confirmed. The circumstances of the tail strike are being examined.
