IndiGo raises fuel charges on all flights from Oct 6

India's largest airline, IndiGo, said on Monday it will recalibrate fuel charges on all its domestic and international flights, effective for bookings made from Tuesday, Oct 6, the Hindustan Times reported.

The airline said all new bookings from 0001 hrs on Oct 6, 2026, will include the new charges. It described the change as a "marginally recalibrated" structure.

IndiGo said aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have stayed volatile in recent months, especially amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. It said the latest month-on-month rise exceeded 14 percent and has pushed ATF costs to their highest levels in a decade.

On domestic routes, the fuel charge will be Rs 375 for flights up to 500 km and Rs 600 for those up to 1,000 km. It will be Rs 900 for flights of 1,001 to 1,500 km and Rs 1,150 for those up to 2,000 km. Flights beyond 2,000 km will carry a charge of Rs 1,300.

On international routes, flights to South Asian (SAARC) countries will attract Rs 1,000 for distances up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 beyond that. Flights to Southeast Asia, the Gulf and Middle East, and North and East Asia will carry Rs 5,500. The charge will be Rs 6,000 for Africa and Rs 10,000 for Europe. All amounts are in Indian rupees.

IndiGo said fuel is a significant share of airlines' operating costs, and the increase is expected to affect cost structures and network economics across the industry, including its own. It described the adjustment as measured and relatively modest, designed to limit the impact on passengers.

The airline said it regrets the additional burden on customers but that the decision reflects sustained cost increases and a changing market. It said it will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as appropriate.
