Lufthansa to resume Nagoya, add daily Tokyo-Narita flight

Lufthansa Group said on Tuesday it will expand its services to Japan from the 2027 summer schedule, resuming flights to Nagoya and adding a daily Frankfurt–Tokyo Narita service. It cited strong demand.

Lufthansa will bring back its Frankfurt–Nagoya route on a seasonal basis, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from March 29, 2027. Flight LH736 will leave Frankfurt at 2:10 pm and arrive in Nagoya at 9:35 am the next day, local time. The return flight, LH737, will depart Nagoya at 11:30 am and land in Frankfurt at 6:30 pm.

From March 28, 2027, Lufthansa will also fly daily between Frankfurt and Tokyo-Narita. Flight LH710 will depart Frankfurt at 1:45 pm and land at 9:30 am the next day, while LH711 will leave Narita at 11:20 am and arrive in Frankfurt at 6:40 pm. The airline will continue to fly daily from both Munich and Frankfurt to Tokyo-Haneda.

Both new routes will use Boeing 787-9 aircraft in Lufthansa's Allegris configuration, with 28 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats and 231 Economy seats.

"Japan is a key market for the Lufthansa Group," said Dieter Vranckx, a member of the group's Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer. He said the added capacity and the return of Nagoya would give customers more options and support the diversification of the group's intercontinental network.

Swiss to add Zurich flights

Swiss will also expand its Japan service in summer 2027, with up to seven weekly flights from Zurich to Tokyo-Narita, the group said.

In total, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss and ITA Airways will offer up to 50 weekly flights to four Japanese destinations in summer 2027: Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya. The group said the expansion keeps it ahead of other European airline groups in the Japanese market, measured by weekly flights. Passengers can also book through its joint venture partner ANA.

The flights are on sale now, the group said.
