MAG teams up with Boeing, Airbus, Thales, others on MRO

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced seven partnerships with global aviation, engineering, technology, and logistics companies to strengthen its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and engineering operations, the group said on Friday.

The partnerships were announced during MRO Asia-Pacific 2026 in Singapore. MAG said they cover component support, engineering, materials management, and aviation logistics and are intended to improve fleet reliability and operational resilience and support long-term MRO growth.

Five of the agreements are with Thales, Airbus Flight Hour Services (FHS), Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M), The Boeing Company and Collins Aerospace. MAG said these strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ access to component support, repair capabilities, technical expertise and materials management across its fleet. They are also expected to improve the availability of critical components and parts, support maintenance planning and make engineering operations more responsive.

A sixth partnership, with CEVA Logistics, will provide integrated logistics support for aircraft components, critical spare parts, and other materials. MAG said it complements wider efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience and support timely maintenance across its network.

The seventh involves MAB Engineering Services, the group’s engineering arm, which MAG is positioning as an MRO provider to external airline customers. The release said its expanded collaboration with Batik Air Malaysia builds on line maintenance support already provided at multiple locations, and reflects growing confidence in the unit’s capabilities.

Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MAG, said the past year was challenging for the industry, citing volatile fuel prices and other pressures that affect operations and financial performance. “These realities make it even more important that we remain disciplined in how we run the business and where we invest,” he said.

He said the focus is not only on standalone maintenance activities but also on “establishing an integrated, resilient MRO and engineering platform for the Group.” He added that the partnerships combine global expertise, technical capabilities, and supply chain support with MAG’s own engineering strengths, helping the group support its airlines while creating opportunities to grow its MRO business.

The release did not disclose financial terms, contract durations, or the specific scope of each agreement.
