Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. Ltd. (MASPL), part of the Mahindra Group, has been awarded a contract by Airbus to manufacture and supply fuselage skins for the A320 family of aircraft, the company said Monday, expanding its long-running partnership with the European planemaker and adding to India's footprint in the global aerospace supply chain.

Under the deal, Mahindra Aerostructures will produce fuselage skins for Sections 18 and 19 — covering the rear fuselage and tail sections — of the A320neo and A321XLR. The parts will be manufactured at the company's Bengaluru facility and shipped to Airbus's plant in Augsburg, Germany. The scope covers eight fuselage skins for Section 18 and three for Section 19.

The company said the contract, together with a recently concluded roll-forming agreement with Airbus, fits its broader plan to build larger fuselage sections in the future. As part of a multi-year industrialisation roadmap, Mahindra Aerostructures will expand its manufacturing capabilities in chemical milling, surface treatment and stretch-forming. Engineering work, including tooling design and process qualification, is already under way, with deliveries targeted for 2028.

Vinod Sahay, president of Mahindra Aerospace, Advanced Technologies and Trucks & Buses, said the contract marked "another important step" in the company's relationship with Airbus. "The manufacture of fuselage skins for the A320 family requires advanced process capabilities and precision at scale," he said, adding that the company would build the required capabilities in India through investment in specialised technology and infrastructure.

Jürgen Westermeier, president and managing director of Airbus India and South Asia, said the contract reflected "world-class precision engineering capabilities present in the country." He said manufacturing the components in Bengaluru would help deepen India's aerospace footprint and support the government's "Make in India" push.

Mahindra Aerostructures has previously manufactured and assembled main fuselages for Airbus's H125 and H130 helicopters, and has supplied components and sub-assemblies for Airbus commercial aircraft programmes. The Bengaluru-based unit holds AS9100D and NADCAP certifications.
