Malaysia Airlines, SIA launch joint fares on KL-Singapore route

Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines launched a joint business partnership Monday, introducing shared fare products for travellers flying between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore as the two carriers deepen a commercial alliance years in the making.

The partnership, formalised in January 2026 following regulatory approvals, marks the latest phase of a cooperation framework the two airlines first signed in October 2019.

Under the new arrangement, the carriers will offer joint fare products on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route, building on an existing codeshare agreement that already covers services across Malaysia, Singapore, Europe and South Africa.

"This joint business partnership with Singapore Airlines marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our commercial collaboration," said Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business at Malaysia Aviation Group.

"By introducing joint fare products, we are giving our customers greater choice, improved flexibility, and a more seamless travel experience," he added.

The airlines said they are also working toward reciprocal lounge access, coordinated flight schedules and joint corporate travel arrangements, though no timetable for those measures was announced.

Singapore Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin said the deal would offer travellers "more flexibility and convenience when planning their journeys" and would "strengthen the long-standing people-to-people connections and trade links between Singapore and Malaysia."

The two carriers have been gradually expanding ties since 2019. In February 2024, they introduced reciprocal earning and redemption between Malaysia Airlines' Enrich and Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer frequent flyer programmes.

The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore air corridor is one of the busiest in Southeast Asia, with both carriers competing alongside budget rivals including AirAsia and Scoot.
