Minister, UK MPs discuss tapping diaspora investment

Two British members of parliament called on Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Arifur Haque Chowdhury at his office, where they discussed ways to bring the Bangladeshi diaspora closer to the country's development.

Shockat Adam, MP for Leicester South in England, and Apsana Begum, MP for Poplar and Limehouse in London, held the courtesy meeting with the minister, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed how Bangladeshi communities living in different countries could engage more closely in a range of important activities. The ministry said it placed special emphasis on ways to involve expatriates effectively in the country's economy through their initiatives and investments.

Ministry Secretary Md Mokhter Ahmed, Additional Secretary Md Saiful Haque Chowdhury, and Joint Secretaries Debojit Singha and Md Shahidul Islam Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
