Nepal eyes more Bangladeshi visitor

The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka and the Nepal Tourism Board held a tourism promotion programme in the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday evening, under the theme “Nepal Is Calling: Visit, Explore, Experience”, according to an embassy press release.

Nepal’s Ambassador, Ghanashyam Bhandari, said tourism and people-to-people contact are an important pillar of Nepal-Bangladesh relations. He cited the two countries’ geographical proximity and cultural similarities, and urged Bangladeshi travellers to visit Nepal. He also referred to the flash floods of August 26, 2026, which he described as devastating, and said the tourism industry had shown resilience and that work to strengthen the sector was continuing.

Dr Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, Secretary of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, was the chief guest. She said tourism cooperation and better connectivity are important to deepening ties between the two countries. She urged tour and travel entrepreneurs to expand business networks, build partnerships and develop joint tourism packages.

Santosh Kumar Ghimire, Senior Manager at the Nepal Tourism Board, gave a presentation on Nepal’s tourism offerings, covering leisure, culture, spirituality, adventure and wellness, as well as meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) travel. He described Nepal as a year-round destination that is safe and hospitable, the release said.

Deputy Chief of Mission Pratik Karki, Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) President Mohammed Hanif, and Asian Tourism Fair Chairman Mohiuddin Helal also spoke.

The event opened with business-to-business sessions between Nepali and Bangladeshi tour and travel agencies to discuss packages, group travel and joint promotions. A formal programme followed, attended by tour operators, travel agency representatives and other tourism and hospitality stakeholders from both countries. It included cultural performances and a raffle draw, with prizes of air tickets sponsored by Himalaya Airlines and holiday packages sponsored by participating Nepali agencies.

A delegation of Nepali tour operators and travel agencies, led by the Nepal Tourism Board, is taking part in the 14th Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF), to be held in Dhaka from October 29 to 31.
