No ‘free visa’ exists in Maldives, Bangladesh mission warns

The Bangladesh High Commission in Maldives has cautioned Bangladeshis that there is no visa category called “free visa” in the Indian Ocean island nation and that working anywhere other than the place stated on one’s visa is illegal.

In a public notice published on November 31, the mission said anyone who enters the Maldives on one visa and works elsewhere will be arrested under Maldivian law and sent back to Bangladesh.

The High Commission urged people not to be tempted by offers of “free visa” jobs abroad.

The mission also asked everyone to spread awareness of the matter.

The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives issued the notice.
