A Cessna 208 aircraft skidded off the runway at Mariscal La Mar Airport in the southern Ecuadorian city of Cuenca, fell over the side of a hill, and crashed onto a busy highway below, TMZ reported.
Video footage shows the plane cresting the hill and landing on the road, bouncing across the terrain before coming to a stop on the roadway. The aircraft's nose looks badly damaged.
The U.S. Sun reported that the plane, flying in from Guayaquil, touched down on the runway but was going too fast to stop.
Two people were on board. Ecuadorâs General Directorate of Civil Aviation said both survived and were in stable condition.
First responders rushed to the scene and cordoned off the road.
The airport was briefly closed to air traffic but resumed normal operations later in the day, according to the report.
The aircraft was reportedly carrying valuables for Ecuadorâs Central Bank.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
