A private jet veered off the runway and caught fire while landing at Misrata International Airport in Libya on Monday morning, though no injuries were reported among the crew, according to Libya's Ministry of Transportation, as reported by The Libya Observer.

The ministry said emergency teams and relevant authorities responded to the incident and brought the fire under control, while measures were taken to ensure the safety of air navigation at the airport. It added that authorities were completing the necessary procedures ahead of the resumption of flights.

According to sources in Misrata cited by the outlet, the aircraft was a Cessna 650 carrying a three-member crew with no passengers on board: a German national serving as pilot and two Turkish nationals serving as co-pilot and flight attendant.

Preliminary information indicated that the aircraft suffered a technical malfunction in one of its engines while airborne during the landing phase, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing before the aircraft veered off the runway, the report said.

Flight operations at Misrata International Airport were suspended following the incident, pending completion of necessary procedures, handling of the damaged aircraft, and an assessment of the runway's condition, according to the report.
