Prix Versailles names world’s most beautiful airports of 2026

Airports are no longer just places for passengers to arrive and depart; they are increasingly becoming symbols of architectural innovation and design excellence. The prestigious Prix Versailles architecture awards have recognised some of the world’s most impressive airport terminals in their 2026 honours.

The annual awards, known for celebrating outstanding architectural achievements across categories including museums, hotels, restaurants and airports, featured remarkable aviation hubs from Asia, Europe and North America.

Among this year’s recognised airports is Techo International Airport in Cambodia, one of the standout designs on the list. Designed by global architecture firm Foster + Partners, the airport aims to become one of the world’s greenest aviation facilities.

The design takes inspiration from ancient civilisations and local architectural traditions, incorporating natural forms and materials. Its signature canopy-style roof is built with a steel grid shell structure and supported by 36-metre-tall “trees”, allowing natural light to enter the terminal while creating a visually striking environment.

Germany’s Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 was also recognised for its distinctive design, featuring an elegant, wave-like ceiling structure. India’s Navi Mumbai International Airport Terminal 1, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, earned a place on the list with its futuristic design.

Other notable airports from China and the United States were also included among the world’s most beautiful aviation facilities.

The airports recognised in the 2026 Prix Versailles awards are:

• Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (Terminal 3), China

• Frankfurt Airport (Terminal 3), Germany

• Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (Terminal 2), India

• Navi Mumbai International Airport (Terminal 1), India

• Techo International Airport, Cambodia

• Pittsburgh International Airport, USA

• San Diego International Airport (Terminal 1), USA
