Qatar Airways to launch flights to Western Sydney in Dec 2027

Qatar Airways plans to launch direct flights between Doha and Western Sydney International Airport on December 15, 2027, expanding its Australian network to seven destinations.

The new route will initially operate three times a week using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with 42 Business Class seats featuring the airline’s Qsuite product and 312 Economy Class seats, according to a press release issued by the airline on October 20.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale on December 19, 2026. The airline said it plans to gradually increase the service to daily operations.

Western Sydney will become Qatar Airways’ seventh Australian gateway, joining Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Hamad Al Khater said the new service marked another step in the airline’s longstanding partnership with Australia.

“The new route will link Western Sydney directly with Doha and, through Hamad International Airport, with more than 170 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and beyond,” he said.

Al Khater said the service would create opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment between Australia, Qatar, and other markets, while also providing Australian travellers with access to the airline’s network through Doha.

The airline also said the route would provide exporters in New South Wales with a direct cargo connection to markets in the Gulf and beyond.

Western Sydney International Airport Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey welcomed the announcement, saying the service would expand travel options for passengers using the new airport.

“With the addition of this premium carrier alongside WSI’s existing airline partners, our customers will be able to enjoy access to more than 250 destinations around the globe within the first 14 months of the airport’s launch,” Hickey said.

He added that the airport’s 24-hour operating capacity was a key advantage for the new service, offering greater flexibility for airlines and passengers.

Under the initial schedule, Qatar Airways flight QR906 will depart Doha at 1:40am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, arriving in Western Sydney at 11:45pm the same day.

The return flight, QR907, will depart Western Sydney at 4:10pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Doha at 11pm.

Passengers will also have access to complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi on the flights, according to the airline.

The new service will complement the broader expansion plans of the Qatar Airways-Virgin Australia partnership, which aims to develop the airlines’ networks and improve international connectivity for Australian travellers.

Western Sydney International Airport, also known as Nancy-Bird Walton Airport, is designed to operate around the clock. The new route will provide an additional gateway to Doha for travellers in western Sydney, alongside the airline’s existing services to Sydney’s established international airport.
