Riyadh embassy warns Bangladeshis over social media posts

The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh has urged Bangladeshi nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain cautious in the current Middle East situation and to follow instructions issued by Saudi authorities.

In an “extremely urgent” notice dated Oct 11, the embassy did not elaborate on the situation it was referring to.

On Monday, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment also shared the notice on their social media.

The notice said capturing, sharing, or posting on social media any information, photographs, or videos related to the situation is a punishable offence under Saudi law.

It asked Bangladeshis to respect Saudi laws and to refrain completely from circulating, saving on mobile phones, or exchanging sensitive photos, videos, and information about the situation on platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and X.

The embassy also advised people to avoid risky and crowded places.

For any information, it said Bangladeshis can contact the following embassy hotlines:

Labour-related toll-free number: 8001000125

Passport-related toll-free number: 8001000126

Diplomatic wing: 8001000124

Death-related hotline: +966570212180

The embassy asked people to follow its verified Facebook page (facebook.com/bdembassyriyadh) for regular updates.
