Sajek Valley closed to tourists amid landslide risk, heavy rain

The Rangamati district administration has temporarily closed Sajek Valley to visitors, citing continuous heavy rainfall, landslide risks, accidents, and disruption to communication in the hilly area.

Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi announced the decision Tuesday evening in an emergency public notice.

According to the notice, all tourist spots, waterfalls, hill trails, and remote or high-risk areas of Sajek Valley are off-limits to tourists, tour operators, and the general public until further notice.

The administration said the closure was necessary for public safety, citing the current forecast from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's Storm Warning Centre in Agargaon, as well as days of heavy rain in Rangamati that have triggered landslides and disrupted communication in the district.

Officials urged residents and visitors to exercise caution while moving through the area and to strictly follow official instructions, advising against unnecessary travel to risky areas until weather conditions improve.

Sajek Valley is a famous hill tourist destination located in Sajek Union, under Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district, Bangladesh. It lies at the northernmost tip of Rangamati district, bordering the Indian state of Mizoram.
