Sajek valley to reopen after nine-day closure due to heavy rain

The Rangamati district administration has officially announced the reopening of all tourism centres, including the popular Sajek Valley in Baghaichhari Upazila, starting from Thursday, July 16, 2026.

The decision was formalised through a public notice issued on Wednesday afternoon by District Magistrate Nazma Ashrafy. This new directive modifies an emergency notice from July 7, which had suspended tourism across the district to ensure public safety during a period of extreme weather.

The tourism spots were closed for nine days following a period of continuous heavy rainfall and the resulting risk of landslides. According to the district administration, the initial closure on the evening of July 7 was a precautionary measure taken in response to adverse weather forecasts and the potential threat to the lives and property of tourists.

While the gates are reopening, the district administration has issued a special request for caution. Tourists are urged to remain vigilant during the current season and are strictly required to follow all administrative guidelines and safety instructions while travelling within the Rangamati Hill District.
