The Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) is carrying out a Dh2.4 billion package of expansion and infrastructure projects to lift the airportâs annual passenger capacity to more than 25 million by the end of 2027, Gulf News reported.
According to the report, the airport handled 11,601,728 passengers between January 1 and September 30, 2026. Traffic in the previous year was about 19.48 million passengers, up 13.9 per cent, it said.
SAA Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa said the expansion is a central part of the authorityâs development strategy, which combines infrastructure investment with efforts to attract new airline partners and destinations. The programme is meant to improve operational capacity, efficiency and passenger services.
The airportâs network has grown to more than 100 destinations worldwide, the report said.
The announcement came ahead of SAAâs participation in World Travel Market London 2026, to be held from November 3 to 5 at ExCeL London, under the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. Al Midfa said the authority has had a presence at the event for more than two decades, and that it gives an opportunity to deepen cooperation with airlines, tour operators and tourism partners.
âOur participation reflects the integration of infrastructure development and the expansion of international partnerships,â Al Midfa said.
