Sheraton Dhaka brings Cantonese flavours to food lovers

The distinctive flavours of southern China have arrived in the capital as Sheraton Dhaka launched its 11-day Cantonese food festival, House of Canton, offering food enthusiasts an opportunity to explore one of Asia's most celebrated culinary traditions.

Organised in partnership with Prime Bank PLC, the festival runs from November 4 to 14 at The Garden Kitchen on the hotel's 14th floor in Banani, bringing together Chinese culinary expertise, live cooking experiences and an extensive selection of Asian and international delicacies.

Chinese Masterchef Xu Delin has joined Chef Sait Dursun and Sheraton Dhaka's culinary team, including Chef Mahbubur Rashid Akhand and Chef Dulak Paul, to present a specially curated dining experience across seven dedicated culinary stations.

Known for its delicate seasoning, fresh ingredients and emphasis on preserving natural flavours, Cantonese cuisine is among China's most internationally recognised culinary traditions, particularly celebrated for its roasted meats, seafood, dim sum and steamed delicacies.

At House of Canton, diners can explore signature preparations ranging from aromatic braised lamb shank and hoisin crispy duck to honey-glazed grilled chicken, crispy tiger prawns with pandan leaf and Chinese-style roasted whole fish.

Seafood enthusiasts can savour Chef's Special Chilli Crab, while dim sum lovers can discover prawn cheung fun, crab meat tobiko dumplings and freshly prepared chicken and prawn dumplings at a live station.

Other highlights include truffle beef fun and assorted sushi, sashimi and maki rolls, adding a broader Asian dimension to the festival.

For diners seeking familiar favourites, the buffet also features beef prime rib, grilled salmon, Hyderabadi lamb biryani, beef nehari and mutton rogan josh.

The dessert selection offers another culinary journey, featuring Cantonese double milk pudding, almond jelly with lychee, mango sago, matcha flan and mango sticky rice.

Middle Eastern and international sweets, including baklava, kunafa and tulumba, complement the Asian desserts.

The festival was inaugurated on November 4 in the presence of Felix Chang Y.C., president of the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh; Vivian Huang, the association's vice-president; Md. Shakawath Hossain, chief executive officer of Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC; Gary Farstad, general manager of The Westin Dhaka and Sheraton Dhaka; and Shaila Abedin, head of Liability and Women Banking at Prime Bank PLC.

Representatives of the banking sector, media and hotel management also attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a tasting of the festival's signature dishes.

Beyond its culinary appeal, the festival reflects Dhaka's growing appetite for international dining experiences, with luxury hotels increasingly introducing regional cuisines and visiting chefs to diversify the capital's hospitality offerings.
