Turkish Airlines strengthens Bangladesh presence through World Golf Cup in Dhaka

By Aviation Express | Dhaka

Turkish Airlines has reinforced its corporate engagement and brand presence in Bangladesh by bringing the 11th Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup to Dhaka, highlighting the international carrier's efforts to build stronger relationships with the country's business community beyond its core aviation operations.

The prestigious tournament, held at Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital on Saturday, brought together prominent personalities, corporate executives and members of the business community, providing a platform for networking while connecting Bangladesh with one of the airline industry's largest international corporate sporting events.

The Dhaka edition formed part of Turkish Airlines' worldwide golf programme, which has grown into a major corporate engagement initiative since its launch in 2013.

For the airline, the event represents more than a sporting competition. It is also an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with Bangladesh's corporate travel market, promote its international network, and enhance its visibility among business travellers and aviation stakeholders.

Dhaka champion heads for Türkiye

Colonel Md. Humayun Rashed emerged champion of the Dhaka tournament with 44 points, securing the opportunity to represent Bangladesh's capital at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Grand Finals in Türkiye later this year.

Air Vice Marshal Md. Nazrul Islam finished runner-up, while S. M. Abdullah Farabi claimed third place.

Rashed also secured the Gross award with a score of 75.

In the Closest to the Pin competition, Brigadier General Yasir Jahan won the men's category, while Neela Aziz emerged victorious in the women's category.

The tournament at Kurmitola Golf Club was the 92nd event in this year's international series, which comprises 139 tournaments worldwide.

Winners from participating destinations will advance to the Grand Finals at Gloria Golf Club on Türkiye's Mediterranean coast, with accommodation at Gloria Serenity Resort.

All finalists will travel to Türkiye in Turkish Airlines Business Class, offering participants an opportunity to experience the carrier's premium travel services.

Turkish Airlines deepens corporate connections

The Turkish Airlines General Manager in Dhaka, İslam Güre, expressed satisfaction over the successful staging of the tournament and congratulated the winners.

“We thank all of our guests who made the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup here in Dhaka a huge success,” he said.

“Once again, it was a thrilling tournament in the TAWGC series, congratulations to our winner, Col. Md. Humayun Rashed. We wish him the best of luck in Türkiye,” Güre added.

The event also reflects the impoBangladesh's importancerket for international airlines seeking to develop closer relationships with corporate travellers and the wider business community.

As business travel, overseas education, tourism, and international commercial activities continue to generate demand for global air connectivity, engagement with influential corporate groups remains an important element of airline marketing.

Turkish Airlines' international route network provides connections through its Istanbul hub to destinations across Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and other regions.

Its presence in Bangladesh's aviation market gives travellers access to that network, while corporate initiatives such as the World Golf Cup help maintain relationships with business customers and other stakeholders.

The golf tournament adds a distinctive dimension to the airline's local brand-building activities by combining sport, hospitality, and international networking.

Connecting Bangladesh with a global platform

Since its inception in 2013, the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup has expanded significantly, bringing together more than 10,000 players across over 130 tournaments in 84 countries.

The global scale of the competition allows participants from individual markets, including Bangladesh, to compete for a place in an international final.

For Dhaka's champion, the opportunity extends beyond winning a local golf tournament to representing the city at an event attended by winners from different parts of the world.

The tournament also provides Turkish Airlines with an international platform to showcase its hospitality, premium services, and destination network.

In Bangladesh, where competition among international airlines extends beyond ticket prices to customer relationships and service quality, such initiatives offer an additional channel for engaging frequent travellers and corporate clients.

Promoting Türkiye as a golf tourism destination

Beyond aviation and corporate networking, the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup plays a role in promoting Türkiye's tourism industry, particularly the Mediterranean resort destination of Antalya.

Over the past decade, the airline's sponsorship of major golf events, including the Turkish Airlines Open and the World Golf Cup, has helped raise the international profile of the region's golf courses and hospitality facilities.

The Grand Finals at Gloria Golf Club and accommodation at Gloria Serenity Resort will introduce participating champions to the Turkish Golf Coast, which has developed into an international destination for golf tourism.

The 2026 tournament is supported by Gloria Hotels & Resorts.

A global airline with a local footprint

Established in 1933 with just five aircraft, Turkish Airlines has developed into one of the world's largest international network carriers.

According to the airline, it currently operates a fleet of 516 passenger and cargo aircraft, serving 356 destinations in 132 countries, including 303 international and 53 domestic destinations.

The carrier is also a member of Star Alliance, providing passengers with access to an extensive international airline network.

For Turkish Airlines, maintaining a presence in Bangladesh involves not only connecting passengers to international destinations but also developing lasting relationships with the local travel trade, corporate sector and wider community.

The return of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup to Dhaka illustrates that broader approach.

By bringing a global sporting event to Bangladesh and offering the local champion a place in its international finals, the airline is strengthening its corporate visibility while positioning itself as a partner in business networking, travel and tourism.

For Bangladesh's aviation market, the initiative is another example of how international carriers are increasingly using sports, hospitality and corporate engagement to build connections with customers beyond the airport.
