UAE bars regular Iranians; Golden Visa holders exempted

Dubai-based airline Emirates announced today that ordinary Iranian citizens are barred from entering or transiting through the United Arab Emirates. However, Flydubai stated that this restriction will not apply to Iranian citizens holding a ‘Golden Visa’.

Emirates stated that Iranian citizens are not allowed to enter or transit UAE amid heightened tensions between Iran and Gulf states. Restriction affects one of Middle East’s busiest aviation hubs, potentially impacting thousands of travellers.

Another UAE carrier, Flydubai, confirmed the ban but noted an exception. Iranian nationals holding UAE ‘Golden Visa’ remain exempt and are permitted to enter and transit the country, according to Flydubai’s website.

Golden Visa is UAE’s long-term residency programme offering extended residency permits to investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals and exceptional students. Exception suggests authorities are maintaining flexibility for established residents and economically significant individuals.

Travel ban comes amid escalating regional tensions following ongoing conflict between United States, Israel and Iran. Gulf states have expressed growing concerns about security situation in the region.

Dubai International Airport is a major transit hub connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa, and it handled about 9 crore 52 lakh passengers last year.UAE hosts significant Iranian expatriate community and maintains substantial trade ties with Iran despite political differences.

Restrictions could severely affect Iranian business travellers, students and families who regularly use UAE as transit point for international connections. Many flights from Iran to destinations worldwide route through Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Neither UAE government nor Iranian authorities have issued official statements regarding the travel restrictions. Aviation industry experts suggest ban may remain in place until regional tensions de-escalate.
