U.S. Embassy Dhaka introduces two-day processing for immigrant visas

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka has announced a new two-day processing system for all immigrant visa categories, effective June 1, 2026.

Under the revised procedure, immigrant visa applicants will be required to visit the embassy at least twice during the visa application process.

According to the notice in the official website, applicants must first attend the appointment scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). During this initial visit, applicants are required to bring all original supporting documents along with photocopies. They must also ensure that all required documents have been uploaded to their Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) account before arriving at the embassy.

During the first appointment, embassy officials will review the submitted documents, collect fingerprints and photographs, and determine whether the document review process has been completed.

If no documents are missing, applicants will receive an appointment letter specifying the date and time of their immigrant visa interview, which will serve as the second appointment. The interview is typically scheduled within the same week as the document review. In such cases, the embassy will retain all original documents except the applicant’s passport, which must be brought to the visa interview.

Applicants will then be required to return to the U.S. Embassy on the scheduled date and time to attend the interview with a consular officer.

However, if any required documents are missing, applicants will receive a letter outlining the outstanding documents and instructions on how to reschedule their immigrant visa interview. Once the missing documents have been obtained and uploaded to the CEAC account, applicants must reschedule the interview through their online profile.

The embassy also stated that applicants must bring all original documents, including the newly submitted materials, to the rescheduled interview.

Applicants are encouraged to review the Immigrant Visa Categories section in the Directory of Visa Categories for additional information and requirements.
