The United States Embassy in Dhaka announced Wednesday that it is making Pay.govâthe U.S. federal government's secure online payment portalâthe sole accepted method of payment for all routine American Citizen Services (ACS), effective immediately.
The policy shift, disclosed via the Embassy's verified Facebook page, covers a broad range of consular services, including passport applicationsâboth new applications and adult renewalsâas well as notarial services. The Embassy said the transition is intended to make the application process "faster, easier, and more secure."
Prior to the change, American citizens in Bangladesh were required to pay consular fees in cash â in U.S. dollars or the equivalent in Bangladeshi Takaâ at the time of their appointment.
The move aligns Dhaka with a broader rollout of mandatory Pay.gov use across U.S. diplomatic missions globally.
Pay.gov, administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service, allows individuals to make secure payments to federal government agencies online.
