The Embassy of the United States in Dhaka on Saturday warned that foreign visitors who abuse or rely on taxpayer-funded public benefits in the United States could face visa revocation and possible ineligibility for future travel to the country.
In a message posted on its verified Facebook page, the embassy referred travelers to guidance available on the U.S. Department of State website, travel.state.gov, advising visitors to ensure they are financially prepared during their stay.
âForeign visitors who abuse or otherwise become reliant on U.S. taxpayer-funded benefits can face severe consequences,â the embassy said in the advisory.
According to the notice, holders of nonimmigrant visas who misuse public assistance programmes may have their visas revoked and could be deemed ineligible for future visas.
The United States receives millions of international visitors each year on nonimmigrant visas, including for tourism, business, education, and temporary work, with immigration authorities monitoring compliance with visa conditions.
