Bangladesh Day Parade to dazzle New York streets May 17

Bangladeshi stars, top officials, and community leaders are preparing for New York’s fourth Bangladesh Day Parade on May 17, promising a vibrant celebration of culture and identity in the city’s heart.
A press conference was held on Friday ahead of the parade, bringing together prominent figures from across the community, including business leaders, lawyers, and cultural activists.
New York’s Bangladeshi community is preparing for its biggest annual celebration yet. The fourth Bangladesh Day Parade is set to take place on May 17, Sunday, running from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
The event is jointly organised by the Jackson Heights Bangladeshi Business Association (JBBA), Humanity Empowerment Rights, and Immigrants International.
Parade convener Gias Ahmed expressed optimism about the turnout. “Inshallah, it will be a remarkable gathering. We will give our utmost effort and ensure the participation of the new generation.,” he told the media.
Attorney Moin Chowdhury, chairman of the Bangladesh Day Parade, stressed on the importance of collective effort. “We have to work jointly, combining your responsibilities and ours. You know more people than we do,” he said, speaking directly to community members and media representatives.
Organizers confirmed that extensive preparations are underway. Popular Bangladeshi entertainers, including actors Chanchal Chowdhury, Tanzin Tisha, Richi Suleiman, and Sajal Noor, are scheduled to attend. Local social, cultural, and community organizations will also participate in the march.
Member secretary Fahad Suleiman highlighted the growing scale of the community. “Our community is getting so large. We want to be able to honour it every year,” he said.
Grand Marshal M Aziz reflected on the spirit behind the work. “Our work for the community was never meant to secure a post, status, or identity for ourselves.,” he told the media.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul and City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will attend as inaugural guests. Federal Judge Nusrat Jahan and State Judge Suma Saeed, both of Bangladeshi origin, have been invited as special guests.
Captain Prince Alam, president of the Bangladeshi American Police Association (BAPA), confirmed that the organization will provide full support throughout the event.
