The Bangladesh High Commission in London has warned Bangladeshi expatriates in the United Kingdom about fraudulent individuals posing as government officials and offering fake services, including so-called “expatriate cards."
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the mission said it had recently identified attempts by scammers who were contacting members of the community while impersonating officials of the Bangladesh government or its missions abroad. The fraudsters allegedly promised various benefits to mislead individuals.
The High Commission said two phone numbers—+44 7878 709995 and +44 7418 352834—had been specifically linked to such activities and urged the public to remain vigilant. It added that the matter has already been reported to relevant authorities in the United Kingdom.
Officials stressed that any official initiative, service, or programme of the Bangladesh government or its missions would only be announced through verified platforms, including the mission’s official website and its Facebook page.
The High Commission advised expatriates to avoid responding to suspicious communications and to verify credentials before engaging in any financial transactions, underscoring the need for caution amid rising incidents of fraud targeting migrant communities.
