Bangladesh's High Commission in Male has provided air tickets to two ailing Bangladeshi migrant workers in the Maldives to help them return home, the mission said in a statement Thursday.
High Commissioner Dr Md Nazmul Islam handed over the tickets to the beneficiaries at the mission in Male. First Secretary (Labour) Md Motasem Billah was also present at the handover.
The assistance was funded by the Wage Earners' Welfare Board.
Among the recipients is Nurul Islam, 50, from Chandina upazila in Cumilla district, who had long been suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. The other is Md Aziz Pramanik, 55, from the same district, who recently fell seriously ill. Both were given repatriation support in view of their physical condition and humanitarian circumstances.
"Every Bangladeshi abroad is an inseparable part of our national family," High Commissioner Islam said.
He said, "The High Commission will always stand by migrant workers and continue its efforts to ensure humanitarian assistance, medical support, security, and safe return whenever they are in need."
