Biman Bangladesh Airlines expanded body-worn camera use in
baggage handling at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today to boost
transparency and protect passengers' property across all incoming international
flights.
National flag carrier took the decision following international
aviation safety protocols, which allow airport authorities to open or cut
baggage during inspections without prior consent to remove prohibited items.
Passengers often blame Biman or Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh for
damage caused during security checks, while allegations persist of unscrupulous
groups' involvement in some incidents.
Airline now monitors loading and unloading of baggage for
every arriving international flight through body-worn cameras. Biman has been
using the technology for its own flights since June 2024, officials said.
Positive results prompted the extension to all international airlines receiving
Biman's ground handling services.
Badrul Hasan Liton, Director of Customer Service and Joint
Secretary of Biman, formally inaugurated the expanded service on Sunday. He
said the initiative would ensure transparency and accountability at every
baggage handling stage, boost passenger confidence and enhance staff
professionalism.
Biman stated it would continue using digital technology to
raise passenger service and security standards in future.
