Malaysia's flagship cultural festival, Citrawarna 2026, will return to the historic Merdeka Square from July 24 to 26, bringing together performers from across the country in a vibrant celebration of the nation’s diverse cultures, traditions, and heritage.
According to a press release form Tourism Malaysia, held in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, this year's edition carries the theme “The Rhythm. The Soul. The Nation.” Organizers say the event aims to showcase Malaysia’s multicultural identity while promoting tourism and cultural appreciation.
The three-day festival will feature four signature attractions — Colours of Parade, Colours of Flavour, Colours of Culture, and Colours of Art — offering visitors a range of immersive experiences, including cultural performances, traditional cuisine, artistic exhibitions, and interactive heritage activities.
First introduced in 1999, Citrawarna, also known as Colours of Malaysia, was established to celebrate and promote the country's arts, culture, heritage, and natural diversity. The event has since become one of Malaysia’s leading cultural tourism attractions.
This year’s festival is organized by Tourism Malaysia in collaboration with Yes Travel & Holidays Sdn. Bhd., with support from Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Warisan Kuala Lumpur and other partners.
A major highlight of the festival will be the Colours of Parade on July 25, when performers from across Malaysia will take part in a large-scale cultural procession featuring music, dance, and storytelling. Organizers said the event will transform Merdeka Square into a vibrant stage celebrating unity, creativity, and national identity.
Other festival components include Colours of Flavour, which will showcase Malaysia’s culinary heritage through traditional delicacies and authentic gastronomic experiences; Colours of Culture, featuring community activities and traditional performances; and Colours of Art, highlighting local handicrafts, creative displays, and live artisan demonstrations.
Beyond its cultural significance, organizers expect the event to generate economic benefits for hotels, tourism operators, and local businesses, while also promoting sustainable tourism ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
Tourism Malaysia has also invited hotels and accommodation providers to participate by offering special room rates and promotional packages during the festival period, with the aim of encouraging longer visitor stays and increased tourism activity in Kuala Lumpur.
Further programme details and event highlights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
