Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanum inaugurated the "One Child, One Tree" programme in Manikganj on Sunday, aiming to build a green and livable Bangladesh for future generations.

The minister attended as chief guest at a ceremony held at Nabagram Government Primary School in Manikganj Sadar upazila on Sunday morning, where she formally launched the programme before planting a sapling along with other attendees present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Afroza said the gathering was not merely to inaugurate a programme but to pledge commitment toward building a green Bangladesh for the coming generation—to place a tree in a child's hands and, through that tree, sow the seed of a better future.

The minister stated that the current government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is striving to establish a Bangladesh that is both modern and sustainable. Saying that the infrastructure construction is not the sole objective of development, she emphasised the importance of environmental safety, nature protection, and public awareness.  

Planting a tree, she added, was not simply planting a sapling but a symbol of responsibility toward future generations and a significant commitment to protecting the environment.

The minister expressed gratitude to the people of Manikganj for their trust and support and sought everyone's prayers and cooperation in fulfilling the district's development aspirations.

The event, organised by the Manikganj Sadar Upazila Administration, was attended by senior district and upazila administration officials, local elected representatives, and other dignitaries.
