Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (Dhaka airport) witnessed chaos today as 24 more flights to Middle East destinations were cancelled, adding to ongoing aviation crisis triggered by regional airspace closures.

7 major airlines serving Gulf routes suspended operations after midnight today. Kuwait Airways cancelled 2 flights, Air Arabia operating from Sharjah cancelled 2, Gulf Air from Bahrain cancelled 4, Qatar Airways cancelled 4, Emirates Airlines cancelled 4, Jazeera Airways from Kuwait cancelled 4 and Flydubai from UAE cancelled 4 flights.

Today's cancellations bring total disrupted flights to 475 since February 28, when Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace amid deteriorating security situation in Middle East.

Crisis has persisted for two weeks with daily cancellations averaging 30 flights. February 28 saw 23 cancelled flights, followed by peak disruption of 46 cancellations on March 2. March 1 recorded 40 cancellations, March 3 witnessed 39, while March 4 had 32 suspended flights.

Subsequent days showed sustained impact with 36 cancellations on March 5, 34 on March 6, 28 each on March 7 and 8, 33 on March 9, 32 on March 10, 27 on March 11, 28 on March 12 and 25 on March 13.

Affected airlines carry significant numbers of Bangladeshi expatriate workers, business travellers and tourists. Disruption coincides with peak Eid and Umrah travel season, compounding passenger difficulties.

Thousands remain stranded at Dhaka airport with no clarity on when normal operations will resume. Aviation authorities continue monitoring regional tensions while airlines struggle to accommodate delayed passengers and manage mounting financial losses.

Regional security crisis shows no signs of immediate resolution, leaving aviation sector facing prolonged uncertainty.
