Direct Dhaka–Malé–Dhaka flights of Maldivian Airlines will resume from March 12. The national carrier of the Maldives stated that the reinstatement of this direct service will further strengthen air connectivity between the two friendly South Asian countries.
On this occasion, a signing ceremony was held at a hotel in the capital between Maldivian’s Bangladesh General Sales Agent (GSA), Galaxy Aviation Services. The agreement was signed on behalf of Maldivian Airlines by its Managing Director, Mohamed Ibrahim Yasir, and on behalf of Galaxy Bangladesh Group by its President and CEO, Ahmed Yusuf Walid.
Among those present at the event were the Ambassador of the Maldives to Dhaka, Shiuneen Rasheed, Maldivian’s Director of Ground Operations Ahmed Ibrahim, and General Manager (International Commercial) Mohamed Safah.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Shiuneen Rasheed said that the resumption of this route would further strengthen friendly and bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the Maldives.
Initially, the flight will operate twice a week (Sunday and Thursday). Return fares start from USD 399, which is approximately BDT 47,880. The flights will arrive in Dhaka early in the morning, allowing passengers to conveniently connect to onward international destinations.
According to Maldivian authorities, the route has been reinstated in response to demand from Bangladeshi nationals working in the Maldives. The service is being launched ahead of the end of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, a period of increased passenger movement, making it convenient for Maldivian citizens traveling abroad and Bangladeshis returning home.
Passengers will be entitled to 30 kg of baggage allowance and complimentary onboard meals. Ticket bookings are now available through Maldivian’s official website, mobile app, and call center (1671).
Currently, Maldivian operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, including one wide-body Airbus A330, one narrow-body Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, eight Dash 8 aircraft, and eleven Dash 6 Twin Otter aircraft, serving various domestic and international destinations.
