e-Gate at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to open soon

Security Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury recently announced that the e-gate at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be operational within the next few days.

Passengers will soon be able to enter the airport by simply presenting their passports, streamlining the entry process. Additionally, the implementation of electronic passports (e-passports) for foreign nationals is expected to be completed by December.

The installation of the e-gate system has been completed, and authorities anticipate its activation within the next two to four days. The system is designed to expedite immigration, allowing passengers with e-passports to complete entry procedures quickly.

Upon approaching the gate, the passenger’s e-passport will be scanned, and if all information matches, the gate will open automatically. A camera will capture the passenger's image, completing the immigration process within seconds. This initiative aims to reduce congestion and improve the overall passenger experience at the airport.

Despite the installation, passengers have reported that the e-gates are currently non-functional, resulting in long queues and delays at immigration counters. Travelers have expressed frustration over the absence of the service, which was expected to significantly streamline the immigration process.

Authorities have acknowledged these concerns and are working diligently to ensure the e-gate system becomes fully operational as soon as possible.

The activation of the e-gate system is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize airport facilities and enhance the travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.

Officials remain optimistic that once operational, the e-gate will reduce wait times and improve security measures at the airport. Passengers are encouraged to stay updated on the system and utilize it once it becomes available.
