Emirates and airport services provider dnata have repurposed and donated more than 400 baby strollers previously used at Dubai International Airport to local non-profit organisations supporting children and people of determination in the United Arab Emirates, the airline said Wednesday.

In a statement, Emirates said that 430 strollers, formerly used by passengers travelling through Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, were refurbished and distributed to charities including Hope Amel UAE, Senses Residential and Day Care for Special Needs, and Al Noor Rehabilitation & Welfare Association for People of Determination.

According to the Dubai-based carrier, the initiative involved cooperation between Emirates Airport Services, Emirates Engineering, and dnata4good, a volunteer-driven employee programme focused on community and environmental projects.

The airline said the strollers, recognizable for their red Emirates branding, are provided free of charge to families travelling through its Dubai hub to help parents move more easily between check-in, boarding gates, and lounges.

Emirates said it purchased 1,000 new strollers in December 2025 and decided to repurpose 430 older units rather than dispose of them. Emirates Engineering refurbished the strollers, modified the branding, and added tags reading “Donated with love by Emirates,” made from recycled leather sourced from retired Business Class seats.

The refurbished strollers were later sanitised before being handed over to the selected organisations.

The beneficiary groups said the strollers would be used in different ways, including supporting single mothers, transporting students with special needs, and assisting during school outings and emergency situations.

The initiative forms part of broader sustainability and community engagement efforts by Emirates and dnata, as airlines and aviation service providers increasingly seek to reduce waste and expand corporate social responsibility programmes alongside core operations.

While the programme does not directly affect flight operations, Emirates said the replacement of older airport equipment with newer models would continue to support its family-focused passenger services at Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest hubs for international travel.

Industry analysts say such repurposing initiatives are becoming more common across the aviation sector as companies face growing pressure to improve environmental performance and strengthen ties with local communities.
