Emirates will give passengers on selected flights between Dubai and Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Malaysia a complimentary mooncake on Sept 25 and 26 to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival, the airline said in a press release.

The Dubai-based carrier said the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time of family reunion in many Asian households, marked by gatherings under the full moon and the sharing of mooncakes. It said many travellers fly home to celebrate with relatives and friends.

Passengers in all cabin classes on the selected flights will receive the mooncake with their lunch or dinner, the airline said. The seasonal treat has a traditional red bean paste filling.

First and Business Class passengers will receive a specially packaged mooncake gift box after the first meal service. In Premium Economy and Economy, the mooncake will come on the meal tray.

Emirates said the festivities will continue through the lunar month. On Oct 6, travellers at its airport lounges in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai can have mooncakes and lava custard black gold glutinous rice balls, a sweet dessert, it said.

The airline also highlighted its inflight entertainment system, ice, which it said carries more than 40 Cantonese and Mandarin films. Titles named in the release include "I Am What I Am 2", "Invincible Swordsman", "The Way We Talk" and "I Want to Be Rich". It said passengers can also watch more than 300 Hollywood releases with Chinese subtitles, including "How to Train Your Dragon", "Elio", "Materialists" and "Audrey's Children".

The press release did not say which flights are covered by the mooncake offer or include a statement from an Emirates official.

Emirates began operations in 1985 with two aircraft. It says it operates the world's largest fleets of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s.
