Emirates SkyCargo said Thursday it has launched a weekly freighter service to Toronto Pearson Airport, expanding cargo connectivity between Canada and the United Arab Emirates and supporting growing bilateral trade.

In a press release issued Thursday, the Dubai-based carrier said the new route will provide an additional 100 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity for exports from Canada, supplementing existing bellyhold capacity on passenger flights operated by Emirates.

The service operates via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, linking Canada with European markets as well. Flight EK9943 departs Dubai World Central on Fridays, stopping in Amsterdam before continuing to Toronto, while the return service operates back to Dubai the following day.

“Our freighter service to Toronto is an important milestone as we continue to expand our fleet and network in line with evolving trade corridors,” said Badr Abbas, noting that exports from Canada to the UAE grew by 24 percent between 2023 and 2024.

The new service is expected to support shipments of pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, electronics and other time-sensitive goods, while also facilitating cargo flows from Europe to Canada on the inbound leg. Emirates said the route would help businesses build more agile supply chains through improved connectivity.

Toronto Pearson officials welcomed the move, with Chief Commercial Officer Kurush Minocher describing it as a significant development for Canada’s largest air cargo hub, which handles around 45 percent of the country’s air freight.

Emirates SkyCargo has been operating in Canada since passenger flights to Toronto began in 2007 and has transported more than 11,000 tonnes of export cargo from the country since 2023. The airline also added cargo capacity via passenger services to Montreal in 2023.

The expansion comes as Emirates continues to grow its freighter fleet, having added four new Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft since March 2026, with six more expected by the end of the year.

The new Toronto service underscores Emirates’ broader strategy to strengthen its cargo network across key global trade lanes, with further expansion likely as demand for air freight continues to rise.
