Bangladesh has conveyed a message of solidarity with the United Arab Emirates amid ongoing regional tensions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh said on Thursday, following a meeting between the prime minister’s envoy and the UAE foreign minister in Abu Dhabi.
According to a press release, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kabir met Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, on April 1 evening and handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In the letter, the Bangladeshi premier expressed “firm solidarity” with the UAE leadership, government, and people in light of the current conflict situation, voicing concern over reported attacks, casualties, and damage to property.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his sincere appreciation for the continued support extended by the UAE government in hosting a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates and for the measures taken to ensure their safety and well-being.
The prime minister reiterated Bangladesh’s readiness to extend support if required and invited the UAE president to visit Bangladesh, the statement said.
During the meeting, the UAE foreign minister conveyed condolences over the deaths of two Bangladeshi expatriates in recent attacks and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents regardless of nationality.
“He expressed his government’s gratefulness for the solidarity and support of Bangladesh,” the release said.
Kabir, for his part, commended what he described as the UAE leadership’s restraint and stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic means.
The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations, describing ties as strong and reaffirming their commitment to further cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.
The foreign ministry said Kabir is currently visiting several Gulf countries as the prime minister’s special envoy to convey messages to regional leaders and strengthen Bangladesh’s engagement with the Gulf region.
