The government will undertake a series of initiatives at Sylhet Osmani International Airport to improve services for expatriate passengers. These include better assistance for elderly and special-needs travelers, tighter security measures, and the creation of a special children's play area.

“Several measures were being implemented to ensure better services for migrant workers and expatriate travelers,” said Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury while speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing activities of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment at the airport.

The ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

The minister said efforts were underway to increase assistance with baggage, support services and primary health care for elderly passengers, sick travellers and those requiring special help.

He said the government was also working closely with the concerned agencies to stop harassment and inconvenience to the expatriate passengers at the airport.

The minister said that plans were in place to further bolster security arrangements and ensure safe transportation for passengers arriving on late-night flights, due to the high number of expatriates using Osmani International Airport.

Chowdhury also said the airport will have a special “Kids’ Zone” to upgrade facilities for families traveling with children.

He said the initiatives will be jointly implemented by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
