Saudi Arabia's new national carrier Riyadh Air has firmed up an order for six additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, increasing its total confirmed commitment for the long-haul jet to 31 aircraft, Airbus said Monday, reinforcing the airline's plans for rapid international expansion.

The European planemaker said the latest agreement is part of Riyadh Air's original commitment for up to 50 A350-1000 aircraft announced in 2025. The airline is set to become the first Saudi carrier to operate the A350-1000, which it plans to deploy on long-haul international routes as it works toward serving more than 100 global destinations by 2030 in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy.

"The firm-up of these additional aircraft reflects Riyadh Air's continued confidence in its growth trajectory and in the future of Saudi Arabia's aviation sector," Riyadh Air Chief Financial Officer Adam Boukadida said in a statement.

He said expanding the airline's A350-1000 commitment to 31 aircraft would strengthen the foundation of its future network while supporting its ambition to offer a premium travel experience across a growing number of international destinations.

Airbus welcomed the expanded commitment, saying it underscored Riyadh Air's confidence in the aircraft's performance and efficiency.

He said the A350-1000's efficiency, long range, and passenger appeal would play an important role in supporting the airline's expansion plans while contributing to Saudi Arabia's objective of establishing itself as a leading global aviation hub.

Airbus said the A350-1000 is capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop and incorporates advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines. According to the manufacturer, the aircraft delivers a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption, operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions compared with previous-generation competing widebody aircraft.

The aircraft also features Airbus' Airspace cabin, designed to enhance passenger comfort with modern cabin technologies and improved onboard amenities, factors expected to support Riyadh Air's premium-service positioning.

The announcement comes as Riyadh Air continues building its fleet ahead of launching and expanding international operations, with the airline expected to play a central role in Saudi Arabia's aviation and tourism development under Vision 2030.

Airbus said the A350 family had secured 1,595 firm orders from 68 customers worldwide by the end of June 2026, making it one of the world's best-selling widebody aircraft programmes.
