Six bodies were recovered after a fire destroyed Tuptup Resto & Resort at Patuartek near Inani Beach in Ukhiya this morning, leaving four others injured.

The three-storey wooden resort was completely gutted in the blaze, which firefighters brought under control at 11:00am, three hours after reaching the scene.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters confirmed the recovery of six bodies. The identities of the deceased and the cause of the fire could not immediately be established.

The four injured were receiving treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Fire service officials said some suffered burns, while others sustained injuries as they tried to escape.

Two units from Ukhiya Fire Service Station were dispatched after receiving the alarm at 7:25am. They reached the resort at 8:00am and began firefighting operations.

Describing the extent of the destruction at 10:30am, Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service, said the wooden structure had been completely reduced to charcoal.

The circumstances in which the six victims became trapped, and whether they were guests or employees of the resort, remained unclear.
