Two small aircraft from separate flight schools collided in mid-air over an area near Chilliwack Airport in British Columbia, Canada, on Monday, according to local news outlet Fraser Valley Today, which cited the airport's manager.

Garry Atkins, manager of Chilliwack Airport, told The Canadian Press that one of the aircraft, carrying two occupants, landed safely back at the airport. He said the second plane went down in a quarry lagoon, with one person reported to have been on board.

BC Emergency Health Services said it dispatched five ambulances to the area of Wolfe Road and Schweyey Road following the incident, and that no patients were taken to hospital. In a statement to Fraser Valley Today, BC EHS spokesperson Peter Darbyshire said the agency received the call at 5:14 p.m. local time and referred further questions to local police.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Fraser Valley  Today said it had also sought comment from two RCMP spokespersons, the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, the Chilliwack Fire Department and Transport Canada, but none of the agencies had responded as of Monday night.

The cause of the collision and the condition of the person aboard the aircraft that went into the lagoon were not immediately known.
