The US Embassy in Dhaka has said certain activities are not permitted for holders of B1/B2 visitor visas, including birth tourism, paid employment and formal study for academic credit, according to a post on the embassy's verified Facebook page on Saturday.
According to the post, the following activities are not permitted under a B1/B2 visitor visa:
Birth tourism — travelling to the United States to give birth for the purpose of obtaining US citizenship for the child.
Paid employment — working for or receiving remuneration from a US employer or business.
Formal study — studying towards a degree or institutional academic credit.
Paid work — performing work in exchange for payment.
The embassy did not specify what prompted the reminder or whether it followed specific cases of visa misuse.
B1/B2 visitor visas are used for temporary travel to the United States for specific purposes, including short-term business activities, tourism, holidays, and medical treatment.
