Low-cost carrier Vietjet Thailand has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport on November 22, marking a major step in the airline's $3,200 crore fleet expansion across Asia-Pacific.
Newly delivered aircraft is part of Vietjet Thailand's ambitious plan to add 50 Boeing 737-8 jets to its fleet by 2031. These planes were originally ordered by parent company Vietjet in 2018, with the first batch transferred to the Thai subsidiary in May 2025.
Vietjet described the delivery as ‘a significant milestone in the airline's strategy to align its fleet by market, enhance operational efficiency, and promote sustainable development as an international aviation group’ in a statement released on November 23.
Boeing 737-8 features advanced engineering and supports Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which can reduce CO2 emissions by 15 to 20 per cent. Vietjet Thailand said this 'reinforces our commitment to the 'Fly Green' initiative and reflects our dedication to sustainable growth in the aviation sector'.
Carrier plans to launch new direct routes to Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, Cam Ranh, and other destinations in coming months using the Boeing 737-8. The expansion aims to meet rising travel demand and strengthen connectivity across Asia-Pacific, a region where Bangladeshi travellers increasingly seek affordable flight options.
While
Vietjet Thailand will operate the Boeing fleet exclusively, Vietjet's
Vietnamese operations will continue using Airbus aircraft. Vietjet received its
first Boeing 737-8 in September 2025 for high-demand regional routes.
