What is the cost of domestic flights, and how long do they take?

Airfares between Dhaka and major cities now range from TK 3 thousand to TK 8 thousand as peak season demand and last-minute bookings push prices higher across four major carriers.

Domestic air travel costs in Bangladesh have climbed significantly, with one-way economy tickets now spanning from TK 3 thousand to TK 8 thousand depending on route, timing and booking window. Market data from leading travel aggregators and airline fare listings shows prices vary sharply between off-peak mid-week flights and high-demand weekend or holiday departures.

Travellers can secure lowest fares around TK 3 thousand on shorter routes such as Dhaka to Jessore or Barisal when booking two to four weeks ahead on quieter Tuesdays. Airlines including Novoair and Biman Bangladesh Airlines frequently offer these base rates during periods of lower demand. Conversely, longer routes like Dhaka to Cox's Bazar or Saidpur command up to TK 8 thousand for last-minute reservations or peak-period travel, particularly through carriers like US-Bangla Airlines.

Industry watchers note prices shift daily based on seat availability. Round-trip bookings typically deliver 10 to 20 percent overall savings compared to purchasing two one-way tickets. Travel platforms such as Shohoz and ShareTrip provide real-time fare comparisons for those seeking best value.

Growing network connects major cities

Domestic aviation in Bangladesh has expanded rapidly, linking Dhaka with Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, Saidpur, Jashore, Barisal, Rajshahi and Rangpur. Competition among four primary airlines has kept entry-level fares competitive, though seasonal spikes occur during major holidays including Eid and Durga Puja. Average one-way economy fares from Dhaka currently sit between TK 3 thousand and TK 8 thousand as of November 2025, with early bookers enjoying rates at lower end of spectrum.

Flight times offer substantial advantage over surface transport. Dhaka to Cox's Bazar takes approximately one hour by air versus seven to ten hours by road. Standard economy class across all carriers includes 20 kilograms of checked baggage and seven kilograms of cabin luggage unless passengers pay for upgrades.

Four carriers dominate market

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier, maintains extensive domestic and international reach with government backing. The airline reports on-time performance between 80%-90% and operates a loyalty scheme called Biman Loyalty Club for frequent travellers.

US-Bangla Airlines commands largest share of domestic flights with modern fleet and competitive pricing. The private carrier achieves on-time performance ranging from 70%-85% percent while offering Sky Star Miles rewards programme for regular passengers.

Novoair emphasises passenger comfort and runs frequent Dhaka departures. The airline pioneered domestic frequent flyer benefits through its SMILES programme and posts strong on-time figures of 85%-95% percent across routes.

Air Astra, newest entrant, operates limited routes but attracts price-sensitive customers with promotional fares. The carrier records on-time performance between 75%-85% percent though lacks loyalty programme at present. All four airlines maintain standard 20-kilogram checked and seven-kilogram cabin baggage allowances.
