Bidyanondo Foundation has installed what it claims is the world’s largest cooking pot in Kurigram's Char Subhar area, capable of preparing meals for one lakh people simultaneously.

Giant iron pot measures 31.5 feet in diameter with a depth of 4.5 feet, covering a total area of 770 square feet. Foundation has applied to Guinness Book of World Records for official recognition of the massive cooking vessel.

During trial operations, the pot successfully cooked meals for 20 thousand people. Seven to eight workers simultaneously added ingredients into the pot, which appeared minimal despite adding 50 kilograms of rice at once. Single cooking session consumes eight gas cylinders weighing 45 kilograms.

A spokesperson of Bidyanondo Foundation explained media that the initiative targets food insecurity and malnutrition globally.

“We are working with underprivileged people from the beginning, focusing on basic needs including food, clothing, education, housing and healthcare. We noticed a large portion of people suffering from hunger, so we are trying to provide food with dignity,” he said.

Foundation currently operates Ek Taka Ahar programme, providing meals for just one taka to maintain diners’ dignity while addressing hunger.

Pot proves particularly valuable for flood-prone Kurigram during emergencies, enabling rapid meal preparation for large populations. Construction saves both fuel and labour compared to traditional cooking methods.

Local residents and kitchen workers expressed amazement at seeing such a large cooking pot in Bangladesh for the first time. They think that this is not just a cooking pot but a brave weapon against hunger, describing it as a ray of hope for eliminating food scarcity.

Foundation aims to utilize full capacity during Ramadan and flood seasons, preparing meals for one lakh people simultaneously. Officials remain optimistic about reaching this target as they scale operations gradually.
