Ongoing Middle East instability has forced cancellation of 46 international flights from Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram since February 28, as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Doha airfields remain closed.
Airport authorities confirmed 11 flights were cancelled today alone due to continued closure of major Gulf airports. Cancelled arrival flights include 2 Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights, 1 US-Bangla Airlines flight and 3 Air Arabia flights. Departure cancellations comprise 1 Biman Bangladesh, 1 US-Bangla and 3 Air Arabia flights.
However, some international flights operated normally today. Salam Air's OV-401 from Muscat landed at 7:55am and departed for Muscat at 9:00am as OV-402. Biman Bangladesh's BG-136 from Madinah landed at 8:40am, departing for Dhaka at 9:30am. US-Bangla's BS-322 from Muscat arrived at 9:00am and left for Dhaka at 9:55am.
Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, engineer from Public Relations Department, said airlines are advising passengers to reschedule travel plans. Total of 46 international flights have been cancelled since conflict began affecting Gulf airspace on February 28.
Cancellations primarily affect routes to United Arab Emirates and Qatar, major transit hubs for Bangladeshi migrant workers and business travellers. Chittagong airport serves significant passenger traffic to Middle East destinations for employment and pilgrimage purposes.
