Air India has begun operating its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the Delhi-Toronto route and announced an expansion of its Canada network for the Winter 2026-27 season, including a new non-stop service between Mumbai and Toronto, the airline said in a press release.

The Mumbai-Toronto route will operate three times weekly from October 25, 2026, to March 26, 2027, using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with upgraded cabins featuring eight First Class suites, 40 flat-bed Business Class seats, and 280 Economy seats. The airline said it will be the only carrier flying non-stop between the two cities, adding close to 2,000 weekly seats between India and Canada.

Overall seat capacity between India and Canada will rise by 4,400 seats a month, with premium capacity to Toronto increasing by 71 percent, according to the release.

On the Delhi-Toronto route, seven of Air India's ten weekly flights will be operated by the new Boeing 787-9 this winter, with the remaining three services transitioning from Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to the 787-9 from January 2027. The airline said the move will bring new or upgraded cabin interiors to all its Toronto flights.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, said Canada remains one of Air India's most important international markets, driven by strong demand from the Indian diaspora, particularly during the festive season. He added that the new aircraft deployment reflects the airline's effort to strengthen its position in a competitive long-haul market.

Passengers connecting through Air India's Delhi and Mumbai hubs will have onward links to Indian cities including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ludhiana, and Vadodara, the release said.

For the winter season, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights between India and Canada in total: 10 weekly Delhi-Toronto, 3 weekly Mumbai-Toronto, and 7 weekly Delhi-Vancouver services.
