Air India has introduced a multi-course, restaurant-style dining service for Business Class passengers on selected long-haul flights, starting with routes between India and the United Kingdom, the airline said.

According to a press release, the service launched on flights between India and London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Birmingham. It will be extended gradually across the airline’s Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 777-300 aircraft on other international routes, the release said.

The airline said the service replaces the traditional tray presentation with linen-covered tables and individually plated courses. It said appetisers, main courses and desserts are served on dedicated tableware, so passengers can eat at a more relaxed pace. The service also offers what the airline described as more personalised attention.

Air India has also introduced new tableware for its Vista Verve service, including plates for each course, a signature glass and an espresso cup, the release said. Its centrepiece is a cruet set shaped like a martaban, a traditional Indian storage jar, which the airline said is meant as a signature Indian design.

Rajesh Dogra, Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, said the airline is “continually reimagining every aspect of the customer experience.” He said the service is another step in its transformation, aimed at a globally benchmarked premium experience that stays rooted in Indian hospitality.

The airline said the change builds on other investments in its premium product, including refreshed menus, a wine selection and cabin retrofits. It said it is also inducting new Airbus A350s and Boeing 787-9 aircraft built to its specifications.
