Air India and SBI Card have announced a partnership to develop a Visa-powered co-branded credit card for members of Air India’s Maharaja Club loyalty programme, the airline said in a press release.
The card will offer travel and lifestyle benefits to Maharaja Club members, according to the release. It describes SBI Card as India’s largest pure-play credit card issuer. The release did not say when the card will launch and gave no details of fees, reward rates, or specific benefits.
Nipun Aggarwal, Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the airline wants to build a co-brand card that rewards customers for everyday spending as well as travel and lifestyle aspirations. He said the partners aim to build India’s most compelling travel credit card programme and “make Maharaja Club the loyalty currency of choice for millions of Indians”.
Salila Pande, Managing Director and CEO of SBI Card, said the company sees an opportunity to redefine the role of credit cards in travel as customer expectations change. She said the partnership aims to create a travel-focused card with rewarding experiences.
Suresh Sethi, Visa’s Group Country Manager for India and South Asia, said the partnership reflects a shared aim to shape the next generation of payment experiences, drawing on Visa’s global network and co-brand experience.
Air India said Maharaja Club has added more than five million members since it was redesigned in 2024. Members can earn and redeem Maharaja Points on flights operated by Air India and Air India Express to and from 104 destinations and on 25 other Star Alliance member airlines. The programme also has partnerships with more than 100 other brands across hospitality, retail, lifestyle, and financial services, the airline said.
