American Airlines attendant missing in Colombia layover

Dallas-based American Airlines flight attendant Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina, 32, has gone missing during a layover in Medellín, Colombia, prompting urgent investigation by local authorities.
US citizen was last seen early Sunday, March 21, in Medellín's La América neighbourhood after arriving for overnight layover en route to Miami. Gutierrez Molina shared his location at an Airbnb near José María Córdova International Airport shortly before disappearing.
Sharom Gil, one of Gutierrez Molina’s friends, told local outlet Telemedellín that he may have been invited to a party and was later taken to a medical center. Friends and coworkers have filed missing person reports with Colombian authorities.
Alejandro Murcia, elected representative for Colombians abroad, posted urgent appeal on social media. “Eric Fernando Gutiérrez Molina, a US citizen and flight attendant for American Airlines, is missing in Medellín. Let’s help spread this post to find him. His family is desperate”, Murcia wrote on X, tagging US Embassy in Bogotá.
Embassy has not yet commented on the disappearance. It remains unclear if foul play was involved in the incident.
American Airlines confirmed active engagement with local law enforcement in their investigation. “We are doing all we can to support our team member's family during this time”, airline spokesperson said.
Association of Professional Flight Attendants confirmed it is working with local authorities and supporting the family. Flight attendant arrived in Colombia on Saturday, March 21, for scheduled layover before continuing to Miami.
Investigation continues as family and colleagues await information about Gutierrez Molina's whereabouts.
