Australian mission warns of 'fake migration agents' targeting visa seekers

The Australian High Commission in Dhaka has warned that a fraudulent network is posing as registered migration agents to scam Bangladeshis seeking Australian visas, and it urged the public to verify agents before engaging their services.

In a post on its verified Facebook page on Saturday, the High Commission said scammers were impersonating migration agents to defraud visa applicants of money and personal information. To counter the trend, it said the Australian government has released a six-step guide and checklist, available for download from the High Commission's website, to help applicants identify trustworthy agents.

The guide will help applicants:

1. Check the agent’s credentials.

2. Verify their contact details.

3. Understand their fees and payments.

4. Confirm your visa options.

5. Learn about the biometrics process.

6. Know how they’ll represent you.

The High Commission urged the public to download and follow the guide to protect themselves, their families, and their communities from visa fraud.
